Rung is a daily word puzzle inspired by the classic word ladder — a game invented by Lewis Carroll in 1878, where you transform one word into another by changing a single letter at a time, with every step forming a valid English word. The twist: instead of having to think of the next word yourself, Rung shows you four options each turn and you pick your path.
Par 4 puzzles — 8 moves to reach the target. Great for a quick daily word game.
Par 5 puzzles — 9 moves. A satisfying challenge for regular word puzzle players.
Par 6–7 puzzles — up to 11 moves. For those who want a real word ladder workout.
Each puzzle has a par — the minimum number of steps a perfect player needs. After each choice you get a signal: closer, same distance, or farther from the target, so you can navigate without needing to know every word in advance.
A new puzzle is available every day at midnight UTC. Missed a day? Replay any past puzzle from the archive by adding ?day=N to the URL — for example, rung.html?day=1 for the very first puzzle.
